Indy Rock Live – Super Bowl Village Free Concert Recommendations

On the outside chance you’ve been living with underground cave dwelling mutants for the last few months, the Super Bowl will take place here in Indy on February 5. As part of the week-long festivities leading up to the big game, the NFL will offer a series of concerts in the Super Bowl Village, including several local artists. Shows start this Friday, January 27. Below are some Indy Rock Live recommendations:

Saturday, January 28 at 1:30 – Jon McLaughlin (Verizon Stage) — McLaughlin is a local guy who’s built up a steady following over the years. Excellent singer/songwriter and a great representation of the state.

Sunday, January 29 at 4:00 – Will Hoge (Verizon Stage) — Another top-notch singer/songwriter, influenced by a bit of classic soul and southern rock.

Monday, January 30 at 5:00 – Stereo Deluxe (Pepsi Stage) — Local alt-rock band in the Cheap Trick vein. Good stuff.

Wednesday, February 1 at 9:00 – Big Head Todd and the Monsters (Verizon Stage) — Todd Park Mohr and his band have been cranking out the solid, no-frills rock since the 80s. I still remember seeing them down at IU in 1993 for the Stratagem tour.

Thursday, February 2 at 3:15 – Otis Gibbs (Pepsi Stage) — Indy stalwart is one of the best unsung songwriters around. Great that he has the chance to perform on this stage.

Friday, February 3 at 7:00 – Fitz and the Tantrums (Verizon Stage) — Fitz and his cohorts put on one of my favorite shows of 2011. They certainly know how to entertain. And Noelle’s a fox.

Friday, February 3 at 9:30 – LMFAO (Verizon Stage) — Not necessarily my cup but the entertainment value will be good. And if you’re already there for Fitz, may as well stick around.

Saturday, February 4 at 4:30 – Here Come the Mummies — Here Come the Mummies at 4:30 in the afternoon for Super Bowl visitors. Weird.

Who are you planning to see?
