The Birthday Chatterbox: Clarence Clemons

The rock ‘n’ roll world lost an icon last year when E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons passed away following complications from a stroke. The Big Man’s horn played a prominent role in many classic Bruce Springsteen songs, including the epic coda on Born to Run’s closer, Jungleland.

Springsteen and the band have a new album and tour planned for 2012. How they fill the void left by Clemons’ death has yet to be revealed, but there’s no way it can be the same.

Clemons would have turned 70 today. We miss you, Big Man.

The Boss seems to respectful to try to just fill his shoes with another saxophonist. I’m sure whatever the E Street Band does it will be in tribute. Pat and I went to see the E Street Band in Portland several years back on the “Magic” tour. Our seats ended up being in the special family section roped off right in front of Clarence Clemons side of the stage. It was awesome. All I can say is he didn’t have very good rythmn when playing percussion but when the Big Man blew on the horn watch out!
